Sept. 14, 1999Procarin Cost Breakdown and Dr. Jonez ResearchHere's a breakdown of a pharmacists cost for dispensing Procarin. A pharmacist wrote to correct my previous entry... I wasn't far off, from what I can see! Also, Eric Bailey emailed information on Dr. Jonez. Wish that Jonez's research was on the web. I'll not explain anything here, it's self explanatory below. Only pharmacists who are members of PCCA and who have purchased a license from EDMS are permitted to compound Procarin. The $8,000 to $10,000 fee you mention is to join with the PCCA organization and it does not include the license fee to EDMS. The $0.80 fee is a per dose license fee that the pharmacist is obligated (at this time) to pay EDMS for the use of their proprietary formula. The cost of the ingredients, the patches, the dispensing syringes, the hydrocortisone cream, etc. are not included in that $0.80 fee - and neither are the overhead costs like the cost of time to compound the product and to counsel the users. Altogether, the total cost to the pharmacist is significantly larger than the $0.80 that is implied in your recent posting. I am compounding and dispensing the product in the Chicago area - as are other compounders who have secured a license from EDMS. I would hope that my overall cost to compound Procarin will fall in the future and I will be able to sell it for less. Second up, Eric's email... Back in the 1950's Dr Hinton Jonez was operating a clinic in WA treating MS patients. In fact he wrote a book on his efforts (very difficult to locate a copy, but I found one). He used histamine and curare' injections to manage the disease in his patients with great sucess. I believe Elane Delac's protocol is this same treatment with the addition of ACTH. I've been working with an MD here in Alaska trying to piece the procarin puzzle together. The claims Mrs Delac makes are very much in line with Dr Jonez's work from the fifties, and some of them suggest the addition of ACTH. Here's some info to look for His book, My Fight to Conquer Multiple Sclerosis, Dr Hinton Jonez; The transcript of a teaching lecture he gave was published in Postgraduate Medicine, May 1952; and he had an article published in another national magazine in those years but I can't remember which. I've been trying to spread this info as much as possible because Dr Jonez's treatments are published and can be duplicated by most allergy clinics. Good luck,
If anyone knows of this national magazine, would you please let me know? Would be interesting to see. |
