March 16, 1999LifeCare has raised prices...LifeCare has raised their cost for testing blood cultures to $225., This has to be prepaid. If cultures are done every 6 weeks, that's going to run into some money along with the treatment itself, which is on average, $300 per month. If Insurance pays, there's no pressure but if they don't, that's getting up there. Cultures are also done every 3 months but I'm not sure if that's at the beginning. Texas A&M is still $40. And still, if you send in 4 additional vials of blood, (for research) it doesn't cost you any money. I'm not sure if this is every 3 to 4 weeks or every 3 months. Liver and kidneys should be checked out every 4 to 6 weeks at the beginning, than there's longer periods of time between. These should be covered by Insurance or Medicare. The cost of treatment per month is $300, so whichever place one goes, the cost should Not differ much. Prescription drugs run about the same, so the added expense is LifeCare's culture business and psychological testing, price $350. I'll be working with Dr. Lindner, (waiting for his response) my reasoning, I think is obvious! If in the future I have trouble coming up with $40, I can donate my blood. AND there's no psychological testing at $350, which I'm still not clear as to why that is even necessary! I think I mentioned this before, LifeCare and Texas A&M are doing the same protocols. I think they make their decisions differently but end up with the same treatment plan. LifeCare shoots from the hip, Texas A&M takes more of a meticulous aim but they seem to end up with the same results. The only difference is cost and I think LifeCare may use a little more aggressive approach with the amounts of antibiotics used. Other than that, I'm not seeing any difference. If anyone does see differences, please let me know.
