Part 26 First IV Port treatment...July 28, 1998 Had my first treatment with the new IV Port, it's GREAT!... a little stick with the needle and no discomfort in any way.In my opinion, anyone that is considering weekly, monthly,IV treatments or even weekly injections, if you have bad veins that tend to collapse, bruise, clot or some other thing, a Port is the way to go!! Get it through the Out Patient surgery, a few days of discomfort and you're set! The choices of placement are the chest area, (like mine) the upper forearm and I think the groin area. Do it yourselfers, I would think the forearm would be the easiest. My treatment was 5mg Mitoxantrone and 250mg Solumedrol. I'll keep this protocol and hopefully get immunoglobulin... if not, as I've said prior, I'll have to stop treatment completely if I don't think immunoglobulin is in my future. Writing Senator Barbara Boxer of California, I hope will help. She helped me before, so we shall see! It took 3 weeks but that was the Research Papers not a drug. Even though immunoglobulins are all over this planet, there must be a lot of "Red Tape" to filter through. Or $monetary$ considerations with grant monies for research and Stock Holders. My sarcastic side comes out when I KNOW it's out there and I can't get at it! I'll say it again, people with cancers are being denied complete treatments...because... I can't give a good reason, they have the excuse as to why. CORRECTION CONCERNING TENS UNIT... He (Dr. Quinn) took an evaluation of my disability range. He'll recommend that Medi-Cal rent an EMS unit for 2 months with 2 visits by a PT to demonstrate how to use it daily. If there's an improvement within that time, he'll recommend that Medi-Cal buy the EMS.... There's no doubt in my mind that there will be improvement! And it won't be anecdotal!! My next treatment will be August 3rd. I will be doing this every Monday, hopefully with immunoglobulin in the future!
