René Part 17 February 7, 1998 4 Month Summary...
I think I should go through side-effects,changes and improvements. First treatment was October 97 with 20mg mitoxantrone only. I did 3 treatments of 20mg mitoxantrone then added 1gm Solumedrol during my 4th treatment, which will be the continued once a month. SIDE-EFFECTS... During the first or second week I'll get flu like symptoms. Cough, dizziness, slightly raised body temperature and mild body aches, lasting 4 days or so. Metallic taste. Pressure areas from sitting in my wheelchair are more sensitive to where they hurt a lot more. This started February 98. IMPROVEMENTS...: Stamina and energy have improved. Open my hands, straighten my fingers with and without assistance. My right knuckle, I can rub my right eyebrow, right eye and right ear. ......Now, I can rub them in both directions, several times! More strength while coughing and blowing my nose. More strength and stamina holding my head up off the pillow. My legs are stronger with standing transfers. Hands and arms getting stronger during resistance exercise Less spasms when being moved or touched Less or no pain on heels while sleeping during the night. Sleeping through the night. Bladder function more routine, no urgency or frequency. Bowel function every 2 to 3 days. These improvements as well as side-effects started with the first treatment. Gradual improvement in circulation, strength and stamina. I think that the pain in pressure areas from sitting in my wheelchair are caused from improved circulation. That may sound weird but by improved circulation, I can feel more. Good and bad sensations. I may change the protocol from once a month to every 3 months. Both protocols work. It's been suggested to do a maintenance program of this treatment every few months to once a year.
