I am getting a severe cold. Headache, congestion, various areas of body aches, fatigue and slight fever. Cold weather isn't helping with the fact that mitoxantrone weakens the immune system!
3 days after each mitoxantrone treatment (I've had 2) I have gotten flu like symptoms, which go away within a week. This time it's staying. The weather change and weakened immune system has caused most of this.
I think emotions play a big part in this. My live-in attendant situation is extremely stressful. That hopefully will be resolved in about 2 month or START to be resolved! Being on Government Assistance takes away choices that an average citizen has. I'm on Supplemental Security Income (SSI) which let me register with In Home Support Services.(IHSS) They are the governments paying Agency for home care, which pays minimum wage. My choices are... IHSS, which has an extremely limited home care resource, the Government CONTRACT Agency that has employees but most that they send don't have a clue as to what they are doing or private agencies that charge $30.00 per hour, 3 hours minimum.
Someone in my situation, as disabled as I am can't wait 2 weeks or one day before hiring someone. I don't have the luxury of being able to fire someone, take care of myself until I can hire someone..."Shop around"...I have to take what I can get or go in an Institution.
I went on a tangent here but emotional upset is damaging to a MSers health... more so than the average person. Non MSers don't understand this. They don't really grasp what that means.
So...... with my weakened immune system, emotionally stressful living situation... I've got one heck of a cold!!!
I'll be starting Solumedrol with the next mitoxantrone treatment. November 26th. That will start building up the immune system! Making blood build up and go into my tissues and muscles. I don't know the technical terms but that's basically one aspect.
Side-effects are weight gain, hair loss and facial hair growth. I'll have to watch my weight some how, being in a chair might make this difficult. I'm exercising about a third of where I want to be. (it's an extremely slow process trying to hire someone) I'll deal with hair loss and/or hair growth. I've said before, I'll be glad to walk to the Barber Shop! On To: Back to: |
